Best Fast Food When Sick: 15 Best Fast Foods

The best fast food when sick? Fast food might not be your go-to for healthy, but it does have its place in sickness. The comfort of a warm patty melt or greasy chicken sandwich might do the trick!

I’m not a fan of fast food in general, but when I’m sick, there’s one place that always has me running to the drive-thru window.

It’s probably my favorite sandwich ever – The Patty Melt from Steak ‘n Shake! You can’t get a better combo of sweet, salty, and buttery than in this sandwich. I only wish I had one right now!

Do you eat the best fast food when sick?

Oh yes, fast food when sick is a necessity. A few years ago, I had the flu, and all I wanted was some McDonald’s French fries. Although it wasn’t one of my best decisions in terms of health, it did ease the pain a little bit.

Whenever I have a headache or body ache, I find myself planning out which fast food restaurant to go to. I’m not sure if there’s one specific favorite, but McDonald’s and Wendy’s are the two that come to mind first.

The fries at Mcdonald’s can be hit or miss (mostly miss), but sometimes they’re just what you need when sick! As for Wendy’s, I’m a big fan of their salads. They have some great options that are low-calorie and low-fat. The Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad is my go-to when sick!

What are the best fast foods to eat when sick?

Some are better than others. When I’m sick, I don’t have the appetite to go for something big like a burger or fries. Instead, I’ll opt for something lighter, like an orange chicken bowl from Panda Express.

It’s just enough to ease my pain and help me get back to full strength! Of course, there are some other options like Mcdonald’s and Wendy’s. I’m not a fan of their burgers or sandwiches (even when sick), but they make some good salads.

Another thing to consider is whether you’ll need something hot or cold – Wendy’s chili can be a lifesaver on a cold day, and McDonald’s french fries can heat you on a hot one.

Top 15 best fast foods to eat when sick:

1. Panda Express Orange Chicken Bowl:

Panda Express is my go-to on days that I’m not feeling well. They have many “comfort food” items on their menu, and this orange chicken bowl is one of them! It’s great for when you need something hot and light to eat but still want some flavor in your meal.

2. McDonald’s Fries:

I’m not normally into fast food french fries, but they are exactly what I crave when sick. Unfortunately, Mcdonald’s is usually the only restaurant that can hit the spot, so keep that in mind if you’re ordering elsewhere!

3. Wendy’s Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad:

One of my favorite salads from any fast food restaurant ever. I used to go when I was in college and wanted to keep my calorie intake low. Other than that, it’s just a great option for when you’re sick!

4. Subway 6″ Turkey Breast Sub:

If you’re looking for something light and healthy, Subway is probably one of your best bets. There are a lot of yummy choices, but the 6″ turkey sub is my favorite!

5. Taco Bell Bean Burrito:

This is one of those surprising choices for me. Bean burritos always seemed so basic to me, but when I got sick, this was what I went for multiple times. It wasn’t great or anything, but it did get the job done.

6. Chipotle Chicken Burrito Bowl:

With Brown Rice, Black Beans, Fajita Veggies, Tomatoes, Sour Cream, Cheese, and Guacamole, I know this isn’t a burrito per se, but it’s still close enough. Chipotle is one of those places that I don’t think too much about when healthy, but as soon as I get sick, I crave their chicken bowl. It’s just so good!

7. Subway 6″ Oven Roasted Chicken Sub:

I’m a big fan of the oven-roasted chicken from Subway. If you’re looking for something simple and light, this might be your best bet.

8. McDonald’s Southwest Salad:

Another great option for when you need something light and healthy! The Southwest Salad is one of their lunch options, so it should be readily available at most locations.

9. Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich:

Another favorite of mine from way back in the day, their spicy chicken sandwich is a pretty good pick when sick. I don’t think it’ll make your cold magically disappear, but it will at least ease the symptoms a bit!

10. KFC Original Recipe Boneless Chicken Breast:

I know it’s KFC. They have some pretty good options for when you’re sick, though! Their boneless chicken breast is essentially just a fried chicken patty without the bones so that it might be worth a shot.

11. Burger King Whopper Jr.:

Burger King has lots of healthy choices, but their Whopper Jr. might be the best of the bunch. It’s also one of my favorite burgers from fast food restaurants, so that’s a bonus!

12. Wendy’s Junior Bacon Cheeseburger:

I’m not a big fan of Wendy’s burgers in general, but their junior bacon cheeseburgers are pretty good, and they’re a nice little snack when you’re sick.

13. Subway 6″ Turkey Breast Sub with Avocado:

Another turkey sub-option has avocado on it, so I’d recommend eating it quickly after making it. That way, you get to enjoy the fresh avocado flavor!

14. Wendy’s Chicken Nuggets with Honey Mustard Sauce:

Most people don’t think of chicken nuggets as healthy, but they are pretty good for you. Plus, the honey mustard sauce is amazing, so there’s that!

15. Chic-fil-A Garlic & Herb Chicken Sandwich:

Yes, I know it’s Chic-Fil-A, and yes, I know it’s fast food. However, they have some of the best quick-service places to eat when sick, so they are worth mentioning! Their garlic & herb chicken sandwich is one of their healthier options, and it’s pretty good too.

Is fast food good for you?

It depends on what you order from each restaurant. There’s no denying that fast food isn’t the best for your health, but sometimes a greasy burger is exactly what you need when sick. Wendy’s and Mcdonald’s have some good options that won’t break the calorie bank. Just remember that it’s probably better not to eat fast food while healthy!
